What Are Welding Codes?

A coded welder is someone whose welding code has been approved by a recognised body.

Welders must meet specific standards outlined in a welding code.

They are set up by the relevant trade bodies and are based on the following:

There are three welding codes: general, restricted, and specialised. General welding codes apply to all metals and materials, while restricted codes only cover steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, zinc, lead, tin, nickel, titanium, magnesium, and some plastics.

Specialised codes are designed for specific applications, such as shipbuilding, offshore oil rigs, nuclear power plants, and aircraft manufacturing.

You can find a general list of codes here.
