West Midland Safari Park is an award-winning visitor attraction, located in Worcestershire in the Heart of England. It is home to a variety of all-weather attractions, including four miles of drive-through safari, the largest animatronic dinosaur exhibition in the UK and an adventure theme park.
Since its grand opening in 1973, by the famous actress Sophia Loren, West Midland Safari Park has been home to a whole host of exotic species, such as bears and big cats. Currently, around 140 different species call the Park home, including cheetahs, lions, elephants, giraffes and rhinos.
Our long relationship with West Midlands Safari Park has seen us maintain and manufacture various fabrications around the park. From animal enclosures to access gates, planned or reactive work, we are always on hand.
Most recently we had been tasked with refurbishing one of the parks rollercoasters, The Twister ride. Originally themed around the ice cream, The Twister ride has been in the park since 1998 and is one of its most iconic attractions. Due to it’s popularity season after season, the much loved ride needed some TLC and was also due to be rebranded by the Park.
Once the coaster had been completely dismantled, we took the track parts back to our workshop for a detailed inspection. We identified the need for some structural repairs, which our Class 1 Coded Welding Engineers got straight to work on. After the weld inspections had finished, we gave the parts a clean-up before going on to the shot blasters.
Next, the old paint was removed and re-primed, ready for the application of a fresh new colour, as part of the rides rebranding specification. Once quality inspection of each track piece had finished, they were delivered back to the park for reassembly.
The ride, now known as Monkey Mayhem, is now back in service and as popular as ever.
Good job all round
