District energy systems have numerous environmentally friendly benefits, they are a sustainable, cost effective solution to provide heating, cooling and power. Varlowe have been working with Cofely, (who are the UK’s largest providers of Direct Energy schemes) for a number of years, which has lead to projects such as Coventry City’s district heating solution. From fitting out the new Thermal Substation, to the strip out and complete new install of the Heat Transfer Station, we completed the project on time and on budget. Our attention has now turned to the District Heating in Birmingham City Centre, after already having knowledge of the system due to completing projects for Aston University, Birmingham Library, Barclaycard Arena (NIA), and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Cofely have called upon us to work on New Street Station.
New Street Station and the Pallasades shopping centre is currently undergoing a major overhaul, modernising on its 1960’s look and to accommodate for the huge amount of people who travel into Birmingham everyday. The Pallasades shopping centre, which is going to be known as Grand Central Birmingham, is going to include 200,000 sq ft of retail space including the biggest John Lewis store outside of London. If you want to read more about the development, please visit www.newstreetnewstart.co.uk.
The project is set to run until October 2015.
Project pictures are from various locations around Birmingham city centre including the high street, Grand Central station plant room and on the roof of John Lewis.
